This very interesting article from the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry seems to have proven a link between the consumption of fish oil supplements and a significant improvement in ability to read in school. Especially for kids with AHDH (attention-deficit, hyperactive disorder).
I don't think that's any surprise as the importance of Omega 3 fatty acids, which are naturally found in fatty, cold-water fish, has been understood for a long time - but the study demonstrates that good results can be observed quicker than expected. That's the surprise. Unfortunately, not everyone gets enough Omega 3s their diet so hopefully this news encourages parents to serve more fish!.
